Time to start digging in the piggy bank like our girl Jean …

Here’s another round-up of some great deals out there to add to your personal film collection.

As always, please note that the sale prices listed are accurate as of posting, and may be subject to change (and quickly). So if one of our recommendations catches your fancy, we urge you to snap it up as soon as possible.

Also, please note that we are not being compensated in any way for making these recommendations. We are merely passing along these deals as we find them, so you can stock your shelves as we fill our own.

And we’re off …

flicker alley

Over at Flicker Alley, two long-awaited recent releases are on sale, and we highly recommend both of them. The Mack Sennett Collection, Volume One presents fifty restored Sennett comedy classics on three Blu-ray discs. It’s on sale right now for $49.95.

Chaplin’s Mutual Comedies 1916-1917 is an even better deal at the moment, marked down to $39.95. This set, which was released this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Chaplin’s iconic Little Tramp character, features twelve restored Chaplin classics on Blu-ray and DVD, encased in a limited-edition SteelBook.

Both of these sets are must-haves!

tcm sale

Not to be outdone, the TCM Shop is having a couple of fantastic sales right now. First and foremost, a number of titles in the TCM Vault series are marked down, including the Conversations with Robert Osborne set. One especially good deal is the Frank Capra: The Early Collection set, which features five films from the beginning of the director’s career, including the excellent pre-Code classic The Bitter Tea of General Yen. That set is currently half-off: a veritable steal at $24.99.

The TCM Shop is also having a sale on some Criterion Collection editions–up to 52% off some excellent titles, including recent releases such as All That Heaven AllowsAce in the Hole, and Red River.

And don’t forget TCM’s Big Red Bag sale, with DVD titles as low as $4.99 (I snatched up The Pirate and Random Harvest to add to my own collection!).

marilyn 9 film blu

Featured as an Amazon “Deal of the Week” right now is the Marilyn Monroe 9-Film Collection on Blu-ray. This is a nice upgrade of the single-packaged Forever Marilyn set, with two additional films (Bus Stop and Niagara). Plus, the nine Blu-rays in this set are packaged individually, which is a nice touch. The set is marked down to $34.99 through Saturday.

We’d like to extend our thanks to Jill Blake from The Black Maria for alerting us to some of these sales!
