The iconic green curtain dress, worn by Scarlett as she appeals to Rhett for money to pay the taxes on Tara, is one of the costumes to be restored.
The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, which holds the costumes, intends to restore them in time to display them (and perhaps tour other museums) for the 75th anniversary of the film in 2014.

Scarlett's red dress, worn to Ashley's birthday party after rumors have spread about their "embrace," is also part of the collection.
According to Reuters, more than 600 people from the United States and across the world donated to the restoration fund.
Kudos to the fans of this classic film, who acted with mind-boggling speed to guarantee that a piece of film history would not be … well, gone with the wind!
